Human Interest in Pasar Peunayong
Sunday on
June 8, 2014, I visited Peunayong market (Pasar Peunayong), which is one of the
largest markets in Banda Aceh city. I visited the market to see what is
happening in the market, while looking for interesting photographs that I can
use as an ingredient for the photography final assignment. I chose Pasar
Peunayong as the location of my photography objects because I can see the
expression of diverse people who are at that location.
Pasar Peunayong
At first Peunayong region called
Bandar Peunayong. In Peunayong there are many Chinese ethnic had been in the
region since 17th century. A row of old shop houses and a monastery were silent
witness of the history of this market are mostly still standing strong after
the earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004 hit the region. Peunayong
region is a region that is quite severely affected of earthquake and tsunami
events.
Pasar Peunayong is one of the major
markets for Banda Aceh citizens. Administratively, this market is included in
Peunayong Village, Kuta Alam sub-district, Banda Aceh city, Aceh province.
Geographically, the market was not far from Krueng Aceh and about 4 kilometers
to the north Strait of Malacca.
Human Interest
In
photography human interest can be defined as human activity that can describe
private life of person. Human interest can also be interpreted as an
interaction between people which of is accompanied by an expression of himself
which is able to show the person's life.
Through human interest
photography we could feel the emotional side of the object. In human-interest
we can also show an unusual side of life which can make people touched and
sympathy. Usually human interest photo taken
with accidentally, it is intended to further establish genuine emotional side
of a person's life. Usually social life is most appropriate moment to be human
interest photography object.
Human Interest in Pasar Peunayong
Basically in photography is
not easy where the main object photography is a human. But for me it is a
challenge for my final assignment. In human interest photography there are a lot of the
parts of a human life can be serve as an interesting object. As in Pasar Peunayong, I can see the diverse
expressions of the citizens like the old merchant, the merchant wares empty of visitors, beggars who receive money from the mercy
of others, fish sellers, newspaper sellers, and even other social cases such as
loss of sanity from someone. Lots of things are done by
citizens in Pasar Peunayong, and everything is done of course to make money to survive to find a bite of
rice, for him and his family. For me, the market is a place packed with
people, with a variety of social problems of the community.
